In the world of cryptocurrencies, the enthusiasts often lack healthy skepticism, relying instead on a childlike optimism for the future of this developing technology. Conversely, the skeptics often rely on a handful of failures as justification to write off the whole crypto field. “The Next Gold Rush” by Ethan Turer provides a refreshing mixture of both measured enthusiasm and healthy skepticism, written from the perspective of a crypto-believer unafraid to openly acknowledge the many potential problems with the developing technology. Turer’s book does not read like a book trying to convince you to invest in any particular technology or coin, but rather a book that aims to increase your appreciation for this developing technology in general. Turer’s ideas are backed up by historical examples, and the book flows from “basic” to “advanced” understandings of crypto in a way which will appeal to both the crypto-skeptics and crypto-evangelists alike. I'll admit I'm still not sure what to think of the crypto world: one day I'm excited, the following day I'm not so sure...However this book should be read by both crypto-enthusiasts and sceptics. While the author seems passionate about the idea of cryptocurrency and the creative applications of the technology, I feel that the perspective is a bit overly optimistic about the likelihood of common laypersons' adaptations of it. I love the 3 phases of growth and learning - Crypto Curious - Crypto Conscious - Crypto Capitalist!A clear and well presented articulation of crypto in general as well as some really provocative ideas about the future and the real potential for each of us to have our own value and 'Creator Coin.' But most intriguingly, using Smart Contracts, we could define how we want our life success, value and contribution to be measured.Who are your stakeholders? How would you want to be valued? The Next Gold Rush: The Future of Investing in People: Breaks down a nebulous concept for the everyday person
With everyone talking about bitcoin and crypto, I figured it would be a good idea to at least understand what it's all about and what it's actually good for. Every chapter of Turers' book was exactly what I was hoping it to be to help me achieve that goal, with an added flare to boot. Like I said, it breaks down a seemingly nebulous concept like crypto into to-the-point ideas understandable for the everyday person, adding in cryptocurrencies rich history and actual potential application as it becomes more 'mainstream'.He also added his idea that may benefit the everyday person if successfully implemented, of which I'm incredibly curious and hopeful for it to someday be tried. He aims to redefine our perspective of money for a more moral-based approach that may help encourage people to be more active in society and invest in people behind movements rather than corporations. I can tell that the author did his research for this book. Every chapter is like its own mini-book, perfectly summarizing complex topics like the history of money and debt into easy to understand sections. Before reading The Next Gold Rush I had heard about cryptocurrency in the news but now I get what all the hype is about.Beyond explaining the fundamentals, Ethan Turer's vision for Challenge Coin is inspirational.
